As part of an initiative to bring a nationwide uniform academic calendar, the University of Madras will ensure that all its affiliated colleges commence first year classes not later than the first week of August and similarly the classes for second and third year students will begin by the third week of July from the forth coming academic year.

The university will also have to ensure that the results for all the courses shall be declared by not later than last week of June every year.

Several universities had started to implement the regulation from last year itself, some others have decided to adopt it from the coming academic year.
