Madras HC grants conditional anticipatory bail in a capitation fee case to educationist and his son

Madras High Court granted anticipatory bail to politician and educationist T R Pachamuthu and his son in connection with a capitation fee case but directed them to appear before CBI probing it.

Pachamuthu, Chairman-cum-Managing Trustee of the trust, which runs SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre and the SRM Deemed University at Kattankulathur near here and his son Ravi Pachamoothoo, apprehending arrest for offences under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, sought a direction to enlarge them on anticipatory bail in the event of arrest.

They referred to a notice sent by Anti-Corruption Bureau of the CBI under Section 160 of the CrPC, which asked them to appear before the agency on March 25 for answering certain queries in connection with the case.They submitted that senior university officials represented them before the agency and even after that the agency wanted the petitioners' appearance.

When the matter came up, Justice R Subbiah granted the anticipatory bail with certain conditions, directing Pachamuthu and Ravi to appear before the CBI's investigating officer on April 1, 2 and 3 and after that whenever required.
