Seven-day training programme on responsible fishing by Fisheries College and Research Institute

The fisheries College and Research Institute here began a sensitization programme for fishermen on "responsible fishing" here.

A press release here today said the seven-day training programme was supported by the National Agriculture Development Programme (NADP).

N Neethiselvan,Professor and Head, Department of Fishing Technology and Fisheries Engineering of FCRI, highlighted the facilities being created under the NADP scheme.

C Parthiban, President, Tuticorin Mechanized Boat Labourers Association,u rged the government to take necessary steps to avoid marine pollution.

Venkataramani, Dean (in-charge),said certain important marine fish species, including milk fish, ribbon fish, lethrinids and coastal tuna, whose numbers have declined in the recent past, should be conserved.
