In a bid to improve quality of education in its schools, East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) will set up a teachers' training institute.
EDMC signed an MoU with Tech Mahindra Foundation to set up 'In-service Teachers Education Institute', which is likely to start functioning from April 1, officials said.
EDMC Commissioner S S Yadav said, "While EDMC would provide the infrastructure, the running of the institute would be in the hands of Tech Mahindra."
"There are 5,300 teachers in our schools, besides principals and school inspectors, who need regular in-service training in order to improve the overall quality of education," he said.
The institute would use both face-to-face training and video conferencing to reach out to all the teachers.
Tech Mahindra Foundation CEO Loveleen Kacker stressed on the importance of collaboration between the government and private players to improve quality of education.
In another development, EDMC Standing Committee gave its nod for implementation of 'I Love Reading' programme in 23 of its schools to improve reading skills of students.
Under the programme, NGO Katha would work towards improving the reading skills of the students and pay special attention to children who are weak.
