Policemen beaten up for trying to prevent cheating in West Bengal

Five policemen and same number of persons were injured in a clash which ensued when the cops tried to stop people from helping the examinees in cheating during an ongoing board examination in North Dinajpur district.

A group of people had gathered outside Chiklibari High School in Goalpokhar and were passing notes to students who were appearing for the Madhyamik (class ten) board exams.

On getting information, a police team led by Islampur area sub-divisional police officer SN Gupta rushed to the spot and tried to prevent those who were helping the examinees.

In retaliation, the group of people attacked the team with stones leaving Gupta and four other cops injured. Soon after this, the police lathicharged to disperse the crowd and arrested three of those involved in facilitating the cheating.

Five people of the group were also injured, police said.
