DOE on the recommendations of the Justice Anil Dev Committee issues order for refund of excess fees in capital

Sixty four schools in the capital have been asked to refund excess fee charged from the students with a 9% interest. The schools have been asked to refund the amount within seven days.

The order was issued by the directorate of education, Delhi government, on Friday based on the recommendations of the Justice Anil Dev Committee.

The Justice Anil Dev Singh Committee, set up by the Delhi high court, had found last year that 64 schools in the city had hiked fee without following the rules. The DoE had then issued show-cause notices to these schools asking them to explain why they should not be penalized.

According to the DoE order, the replies sent by the schools were not found to be satisfactory. The authorities have also said that the schools' recognition will be withdrawn without any intimation in case they do not follow the order.

A number of parents had complained of unjust fee hikes last year after which the high court had set up a committee to look into the fee hikes. The committee had come out with its interim report in August which vindicated the parents' stand. The DoE had issued show-cause notices in January this year asking the school to defend their actions.
