A Backward Class candidate, who appeared for Group I examination conducted by Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, sought the Madras High Bench direction to quash the tentative list of candidates selected for the appointment by direct Recruitment.

Justice R.S.Ramanathan, hearing the petition filed by C.Cynthia Mabel, said the Provisional selection of candidates for Group I posts would be subject to the out come of the Writ Petition.

The Petitioner, a computer science engineer submitted she scored 354.50 marks in the examinations and the oral test together.

After the oral test ended on Feb 5,2013, the list of selected candidates were published. Though she had scored 354.50, those who scores less than her had found a place in the tentative selection list.

The tentative list was without particulars without category wise list by following the roster system. No rank number had been given. The counselling was also to be held shortly.

It was strange that those BC students who scored less than her had been included in the list.

It looked that the preference for persons studied in Tamil medium was adopted in the final selection without any further amendment to the original notificaiton.

It was not clear how the total vacancies of 131 posts were distributed and how the candidates were selected categorywise following the roster system. Hence the list should be quashed. The group I posts included for 2007-08,2009-10 and 2010-11.
