A.P.Singh appointed as member of the Union Public Service Commission

Former CBI director Amar Pratap Singh, who retired a couple of months ago, has been appointed as member of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

He was administered oath of office and secrecy by UPSC chairman D P Agrawal, an official press release said.

Singh, a 1974-batch IPS officer of Jharkhand cadre, had relinquished charge of CBI director on November 30 last year after superannuating at the end of two-year-long tenure during which he supervised some high profile graft and crime cases including the 2G scam.

He has held several important positions earlier which include Inspector General (Special Branch & CID) of Meghalaya, Chief Vigilance Officer of Indian Airlines, Officer on Special Duty to the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Additional Director General (Hqrs) of BSF and Special Director of CBI before becoming chief of the investigating agency.

Singh will be 10th member in the Commission, which conducts the prestigious civil services examinations every year among others.

At present, Purushottam Agarwal, I M G Khan, Prashanta Kumar Mishra, Vijay Singh, Rajni Razdan, Venkatarami Reddy Y,

Alka Sirohi, David R Syiemlieh and Manbir Singh are the other members.

A UPSC member is appointed for a period of five years or till an individual attains the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier. The vacancy was necessitated following superannuation of former Delhi Police Commissioner K K Paul earlier this month.
