Maharashtra government proposes scheme for orphans

Maharashtra government has proposed a scheme for orphans, children with single parents, or those whose parent(s) are in prison, to enable them pursue college education.

The scheme proposed by Maharashtra government's Women and Child Development Department will be called 'Dnyansurya', a source from the Department said.

It will also cover those whose parents are HIV positive or AIDS-afflicted, he said.

The government will bear educational expenses of the individual for upto Rs 1.50 lakh. The scheme will be put before the cabinet soon, he said.
