Barkatullah University unable to decide over the fate of B PEd courses run by non-NAAC certified colleges

Barkatullah University, Bhopal, unable to decide over the fate of bachelor of physical education courses being run by colleges not certified by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), has extended the deadline for submission of examination forms. Earlier the university had fixed January 31 as the last date for submission of B PEd examination forms.

Confusion prevails as National Council of Teaching Education ( NCTE) had asked the universities not to allow colleges without NAAC certificate to admit students for the course. However, BU failed to restrict the colleges without the NACC certificates from admitting students for the BPEd course and now they are weighing options as most colleges have forwarded the forms to the university.

When contacted, BU deputy registrar (academics), Dr B Bharti said, "We are assessing the situation and verifying the NAAC certificates produced by the colleges. The last date of submitting the examination forms has been postponed for couple of days. Fresh dates will be announced soon."

Bharti admitted that the university had received the NCTE's letter advising non-NAAC certified colleges from admitting students in May 2012. "The letter is quite old. We will take a decision on the issue soon," Bharti said.

About the fate of the physical education colleges running without NAAC certificates, he said, "I cannot take any decision regarding the issue. I will forward the details of all non-certified colleges to the higher education department for appropriate action.

Several B PEd students have been facing problems after BU made it mandatory to submit original documents for their eligibility. Students submitted original documents four months ago.

BU's authority, however, justified their decision of taking original documents claiming, "We took original documents to verify the authenticity of the students appearing in the exam. We will immediately return the original documents if any students demand," Bharti said.
