Odisha government said, it was planning to set up a health university to streamline medical education in the state.

The proposed health university would be set up on the lines of the Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Health minister Damodar Rout said.

"Besides three state run medical colleges and hospitals in Odisha, a total of seven such institutions are functioning here. A health university is necessary for the better management of these institutions," the minister said.

The minister said 14 medical colleges and hospitals would be set up in the state in PPP mode including some institutes to be established by major PSUs like MCL, Nalco and NTPC.

As the Centre planned to set up 65 medical colleges in the country during 12th five year plan, Odisha proposed four such institutes in the state, Rout said.
