TN government moves bill to enhance retirement age of VC of Anna University

The Tamil Nadu government moved a bill in the state Assembly, seeking to extend the retirement age of Vice-Chancellors of premier technical varsity, Anna University, from 65 to 70 years.

The Bill was moved by Higher Education Minister P Palaniappan to make suitable amendments to the Anna University Act, 1978.

It said government has decided to amend the Tamil Nadu Act 30 of 1978 to raise the Vice-Chancellor's retirement age from 65 years to 70 years on par with the Central Universities Act, 2009, "so as to utilise the knowledge gained by academicians for the enrichment of higher education in engineering, technology and allied sciences in the state."
