41 students of a government-run school fall sick after having food at their hostel

As many as 41 students of a government-run school for tribals near here fell sick after having food at their hostel, authorities said.

Chief District Health in-charge Dr G B Verma said, "41 students of Adarsh Niwasi school were admitted to a local civil hospital last night after they complained of appetite loss and developed fever after having dinner. They are under observation now."

He said the team of health officials noticed unhealthy condition prevailing at the hostel premises.

"A visit to the school run by tribal development department revealed that a lot of garbage was piled up there, coupled with water logging and mosquito menace," Verma said, adding, orders to clean up the school premises have been issued.

Over 140 tribal students of varying age group are reported to be studying at the school having a hostel facility.

The students, mostly in the age group of 12-16 years, had a feast in the morning after the Republic Day celebrations.

"They were served poori and halwa. After taking khichdi in dinner many of them developed fever," sources in the school said.
