MD of a private dental college allegedly bribed a member of DCl to secure approval for a new course

The Madras High Court granted anticipatory bail to the woman MD of a private dental college here in connection with an alleged bribe paid to a member of the Dental Council of India to secure approval for a new course.

"Considering the facts and circumstances of the case and taking note of the fact that she (Srilekha) is not likely to abscond and she being a doctor and correspondent and coupled with the further fact that her counsel's statement that she would cooperate with the investigation, this Court is inclined to grant relief of anticipatory bail to the petitioner," Justice M M Sundresh, said.

However, the judge said she has to execute a bond of Rs Rs 10,000 with two sureties each for sum to the satisfaction of the Principal Special Court of CBI cases, Chennai and to the satisfaction of the respondent police.

The judge directed her to present herself for questioning under the custody of the respondent at 7 AM on Jan 28 and 29 and she should be in the custody till 6.30 PM. "Thereafter, the petitioner shall appear before the respondent (CBI) daily at 5.30 PM for a period of one week thereafter as and when required."

Meanwhile, a CBI court here dismissed the bail petition filed by another DCI member Dr Gunaseelan Rajan, who was arrested on January 18 in connection with the case.

The CBI has arrested five persons, including a DCI member in connection with the case.
