Assam Higher Secondary Education Council starts preparations for exams

 With just a month left for the higher secondary exams, the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) has started preparations. This year, the number of candidates has increased from last year.

The deputy secretary of AHSEC, DD Goswami, said, "We are preparing for the coming HS exam which is scheduled to begin on February 18. Taking together arts, science and commerce, the total number of students appearing for the exam this year stands at 2,35,674. Last year, the total number of candidates was 2, 17, 971."

He said, if the streams are taken individually, then the number of students appearing from the arts stream this year is 1,98,422. Last year, 1,84,333 candidates appeared from the arts stream. The total number of candidates appearing from the science stream stands at 21,493 this year, an increase of 2,811. In the commerce stream, the total number of candidates appearing for the exam is 15,759, an increase of 503 candidates.

Goswami added that a total of 7,134 candidates are appearing for the old course exam across all streams. This time, 15 new exam centres have been introduced and the total number of exam venues or centres is 767. Last year, the total number of centres was 752. Moreover, 80 visiting officers have been appointed this time. For the smooth conduct of exams, 800 supervising officers have been appointed.

"We will start distributing admit cards from the first week of February. Now, we have started dispatching answerscripts and from February 10, we will send the question papers to the respective centres. We have also increased the number of zones for evaluation. Last year it was 25 and this time it is 30. Moreover, we are trying to declare the results within May 15," Goswami added.
