Former President A P J Abdul Kalam said he preferred atomic energy because it was "nonpolluting", compared to thermal plants.

"I am supporting atomic power because it is pollution free," he said, interacting with students after participating at a private hospital function here.

The students asked the former president as to why he was supporting atomic power when there was so much of opposition to it from various quarters.

The former president also said he was more happy as a teacher, and he would not contest for the post of president even if he was fielded as a common candidate by all parties.

Referring to the beheading of an Indian soldier at the Line of Control, he said, "Human beings should behave like human beings under any circumstances."
