Online test GATE organised for the first time in the state witnessed 85% attendance at seven centres in Bhopal

Online test of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), organised for the first time in the state, witnessed 85% attendance at seven centres in Bhopal on Sunday.

"Except soil mechanism, other part of the paper was easy to attempt," said a student of final year civil from Bansal Institute of Science and Technology (BIST).

The centres, where online GATE test in Bhopal conducted included IES engineering college, NRI, Oriental Institute of Science and Technology (OIST), Radharaman College of Engineering, Sagar Institute of Research and Technology (SIRT), Technocrats Institute of Technology (TIT) and Corporate engineering College.

The exam was conducted in two shifts.

GATE, an all India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of undergraduate subjects in engineering and technology is jointly conducted by the Indian Institute of Science and IIT-Bombay, IIT- Delhi, IIT-Guwahati, IIT-Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT-Madras and IIT-Roorkee.

The GATE score is used for admissions to post-graduate programmes of ME, M Tech and PhD in higher education institutes with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other government agencies. The score is also used by public sector companies like BHEL, IOC, PGC and NTPC for employment screening purpose.

The offline test will be organised on February 10.
