International executive of Vishwa Bhojpuri Sammelan to felicitate BHU vice-chancellor

The international executive of Vishwa Bhojpuri Sammelan will felicitate BHU vice-chancellor Lalji Singh with Vishwa Bhojpuri Samman-2012, its highest award at a function on January 13.

BHU Bhojpuri Study Centre coordinator Sadanand Shahi said that Bhojpuri Speaking Union chairperson Sarita Budhu from Mauritius and representatives of Vishwa Bhojpuri Sammelan are arriving to felicitate the VC for his initiative to develop the centre and approve PhD course.

Bhojpuri Centre was established in 2009 in BHU and showcases the ingredients of Bhojpuri culture and civilization stretched over large areas of Bihar, UP, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.

The centre is active in developing and expanding the works of Bhojpuri of saints like Gorakhnath, Kabir and others, warriors like Veer Kunwar Singh, Mangal Pandey and poets and litterateurs like Bhikhari Thakur, Rahul Sankrityayan, Dharikshan Mishra, Gorakh Pandey and others. This centre also studies Bhojpuri society, culture and art. There is plan to build a museum to preserving the cultural specialties of Bhojpuri society. Ravindra Nath Tagore Institute at Mauritius has shown interest in starting a joint programme on Bhikhari Thakur.
