Zilla parishad schools to undergo quality evaluation in Maharashtra

Maharashtra government has decided to conduct a quality evaluation programme of all the schools affiliated to the Zilla Parishads in the state.

Rural development minister Jayant Patil told reporters that the the objective evaluation programme is aimed at improving the standards of education in rural areas and helping personality development of the children.

Similarly, apart from the Intelligent Quotient (IQ), the rating of Emotional Quotient (EQ) will be extended to all students. Earlier, EQ was only for specially-abled children.

In addition to this, it will be made mandatory for Zilla Parishad schools to start Judo/Karate classes for girl students. "The district collectors will be told to provide funds for the same through the ZP cess fund," he added.

The evaluation programme will be of 200 marks, out of which, 75 marks will be for school management, 12 marks for people's participation, 13 marks for equality in educational opportunities and 100 marks for quality of education.

The school management will include infrastructure facilities, playground, electrification, separate classrooms and computer education, administrative matters.

People's participation will see whether the school has school management committee, parent teachers associations. Educational opportunities will include girls education and facilities for specially abled children. Quality of education will focus on personality development of the children.

Schools getting between 90 to 100 per cent marks will be given "A" grade,80 to 89 per cent (B grade), 60 to 79 per cent (C grade),40 to 59 per cent (D grade) and 0 to 39 per cent (E grade), Patil said.

The evaluation will be done once a year. At the taluka level, the period of evaluation will be from January 1 to 20. The awards will be given on January 26. The first prize is of Rs 5,000, second Rs 3,000 and third Rs 2,000.

At the district level, the evaluation will take place from Ferbruary 1 to 20. The amount of first prize is of Rs 10,000, second Rs 7500 and third prize Rs 5000. The awards will be given away on May 1.
