IIM-Ahmedabad Board of Governors delay the appointment process of Director

Updated on: Friday, December 28, 2012

Shortlisting three candidates for the IIM (Ahmedabad) Director's post was not taken up by the institute's Board of Governors, delaying the appointment process further, official sources said.

"The issue of appointment of a Director was not taken up in today's Board meeting," a board member told PTI. "IIM-A's 2012-13 budget was the focal point of the Board meeting's agenda today. I can't say anything about the appointment process of a new IIM-A director," another member said.

The Board was likely to shortlist three candidates for the post of new B-school director, out of over six recommended by the Board chairman-headed search committee, sources said here.

Among the prominent professors from the institute in race for the coveted post are Sebastian Morris, Rakesh Basant, Shailendra Mehta, Rekha Jain and Arvind Sahay.

The five-year term of incumbent IIM-A Director Samir Barua expired in November this year, after which he was granted three months' extenstion.

The IIM-A Board, after shortlisting three names, forwarded these to the Union Ministry of HRD which in turn sends it to the cabinet committee for approval, official sources said.

An L&T Managing Director A M Naik-headed selection committee constituted at IIM-A to select a suitable candidate for the post of institute Director comprises Rama Bijapurkar, Mastek's Non-Executive Director Ashank Desai, GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals Ltd's Managing Director Hasit B Joshipura and Arvind Group CMD Sanjay Lalbhai.
