Rajiv Gandhi University gets new VC

President Pranab Mukherjee appointed Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies (AITS) Director Tamo Mibang as the new vice chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU).
    
RGU Registrar Rachob Taba in a press release said that the appointment order was communicated to the central varsity from the Union HRD Ministry.
    
The appointment would be for five years, the release said. The post of the VC remained vacant since last several months after its former VC David R Syiemlieh left the post on being appointed as a member of UGC.
   
Several students organizations of the state, including the university members were demanding immediate appointment of a new VC for smooth functioning of the varsity.
   
Meanwhile, the University community expressed pleasure over the appointment of Mibang as the new VC and hoped that the institute would flourish in all aspects under his leadership.
