A great deal needs to be done to make every graduate employable

Union Minister Shashi Tharoor said, not all young graduates are employable and there is an urgent need to change our education system to make them so.

Employers tell me that not all graduates are 'employable', Tharoor told reporters at the sidelines of a function here.

"Many companies have their own training programmes to train those they have hired to make up for what they have not learned in their own university. So there is clearly a great deal which needs to be done to make sure every graduate is employable," the Minister of State for Human Resources Development said.

Emphasising the need to strengthen the education system so that the youth can match global standards, he said emphasis should be laid on quality.

"By focusing on inclusion, we cannot forget quality. Quality is very important. We need to strengthen the quality of the education system, particularly at the higher level. So for those who come out are prepared to take on the challenges of the 21st century," said Tharoor.
