Delhi government planning to open more school for effective implementation of RTE

Delhi government said it plans to open more schools and optimising existing ones to help implement the Right to Education Act more effectively.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit reiterated commitment of her government to give education to all children saying they have a right to education as defined under the Right to Education Act.

"The city government will not leave any stone unturned in implementing RTE Act in the capital city. A number of new schools will be opened and the existing schools will be optimally utilised," she said.

She was speaking after distributing academic excellence awards to meritorious students of Dilshad Garden at a function at her residence.

Teachers are mainly responsible for character-building of students and nation-building by way of preparing better citizens of the country.

She said Delhi government schools are being regarded better than public schools and that the government has formulated a number of schemes to impart qualitatively better and more purposeful education.

"Nobody would have even thought ten years back that Delhi schools will attain a pass percentage of over 90 per cent. This change has not taken place in a few months but it took years to improve our schooling," she said.
