Updated on: Tuesday, March 31, 2009

Chennai: Intervention radiology is the next frontier of medicine; a technique by which doctors can enter any artery or vein to block tumours, re-establish circulation with a stent, or administer treatments.

The future of medicine lies in interventional radiology, P.V.A. Mohandas, MD, MIOT Hospital, told graduates of the Shree Balaji Medical College and Hospital.

Speaking to the first graduating batch from SBMCH, Dr. Mohandas, who himself is successful orthopaedic surgeon, advised the graduating students to become a specialized as the scope for general surgery has faded in today’s field of medicine.

The Director, SBMCH, T. Kamal Sheriff said he was proud of the students who had come as house surgeons and were leaving as doctors, but Dr. Mohandas reminded that the medical training the students received through the college was only the first step toward becoming a successful doctor.
