Chidambaram Annamalai University employees observe one day fast

To condemn the proposed austerity measures like staff retrenchement and reduced salaries by the managment over 6,000 employees of Chidambaram Annamalai University and activists of all political parties, except AIADMK observed a one day fast in that town
  
K Mathialagan, convener joint action council presided over the fast, in which over 700 women also took part. Speakers like CPI(M) MLA K Balakrishnan, VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan demanded that the university drop its move to cut salary and reduce number of staff on the pretext of restoring its financial health. Thirumavalavan demanded an inquiry by a retired judge.

University registrar R Meenakshi Sundaram told reporters that the senate meeting would be held tomorrow and that the managment would function as per its directives.
