J&K govt contemplating enhancing OBC reservation quota

Jammu and Kashmir government is likely to increase reservation quota for Other Backward Classes in government jobs and educational institutes in the state.

Vice Chairman of State Advisory board for Welfare and Development of OBC, Kuldeep Raj Verma said, "National Conference and Congress coalition is likely to increase reservation quota for Other Backward Classes in J&K."

"The government has been in the process to increase reservation quota of OBC in Jammu and Kashmir. Presently, OBCs are getting two per cent reservation," Verma said while addressing people in Akhnoor border belt of Jammu district.

He said reservation for OBCs should also be given in the scheduled Block Development Council elections and Municipal elections.

Verma said the government had raised the income limit while issuing OBC certificates from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 4.5 lakh.

"The state government has extended the amount for pre-matric scholarship of OBC students from Rs 2,100 to Rs 4,500, while the amount for post matric scholarship has been set at Rs one lakh," he said.
