Facebook GE among 35 first timers for IIM-Bangalore summer placement

 Facebook, eBay, GE, Sony, Shell, DuPont and Uninor were some of the companies that debuted on the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B) summer placement scene this year. The summer placements for the Class of 2014 concluded on Thursday with 126 companies, 35 of them first-time visitors, offering internships to 377 students.

As many as 100 women were placed in the summer internship process which was completed in eight slots spread over four days, according to a press release.

Five students with more than 34 months of work experience opted out of summer internship to pursue other opportunities.

Segment-wise placements showed that financial services had absorbed around 27 per cent of students, while 22 per cent of them were placed in the management consulting sector. Sales and marketing accounted for 25 per cent, IT for 12 per cent, operations for 7 per cent and general management/leadership 7 per cent.

IIM-B said 265 offers were made in the first two days with media and telecom firms offering roles in sales and marketing for the first time.

Sankarshan Basu, chairperson, Office of Career Development Services, IIM-B, said: “This year, we saw an increased demand for our students across sectors. It was also heartening to see the number of first time companies on campus, most of which were from the oil and gas, real estate, media and education sectors. Students were recruited for positions all over India and 35 are expected to intern abroad.”
