More than 38,000 candidates have registered for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Postgraduates (NEET-PG) in 24 hours. Testing agency Prometric said that this translates into 1,600 transactions an hour. The test is mandatory for admission to postgraduate medical courses starting the 2013-14 academic year.

Conducted by the National Board of Examinations in partnership with Prometric, the first computer-based NEET-PG will be administered over 10 days between November 23 and December 6, in 33 cities. Eligible candidates can register for the test by logging on to www.nbe.gov.in/neetpg, after purchasing a bulletin-cum-examination fee voucher from select Axis Bank branches.

The test registration and scheduling window opened on October 4 and candidates will be able to sign up for the test till November 12. Managing director of Prometric India Soumitra Roy said, "We will endeavour to offer as many seats as feasible in the candidates' preferred locations, availability is on a first-come-first-served basis, and we encourage all candidates to select the best available exam slot, register and complete their sessions as quickly as possible."
