Recruitment agencies in Kerala schedule placements to december in engineering colleges

Recruitment agencies in Kerala are adopting a wait and watch policy in view of the American presidential elections, scheduling the placement drive in engineering colleges in the State to December.

The idea behind the postponement is because many feel that there are chances for a rethink on the outsourcing policy after the presidential elections resulting in companies here getting more work.

This is because the US presidential elections are slated for November 6. U. Prakash, placement officer at Sree Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering, said many companies had decided to visit campuses only during the eighth semester.

This year, the campus recruitment process began only this month, said A. Sampson, placement officer, College of Engineer-ing, here.

This was because NAASCOM had given a directive that recruitments should only begin in September, he said.

Brijesh Paul, placement cell coordinator of Mar Athanasius College of Engineering, Kozhikode, said that a change of power in America might be in the interests of Indian companies which take up projects from American firms. “In our college, recruitments are slated to start only next Tuesday,” Paul said.

“Good ranking colleges like ours may not be affected by the dip. As per my knowledge, many companies have decided to sbe a good nkip nearly 30 colleges in the lower ranking group during the recruitment drive this year,” Paul said.

However, there are sources in the IT sector who feel that the elections would have no bearing on recruitments.

Infopark CEO Gigo Joseph said America had been adopting a policy against outsourcing from the time Barack Obama was elected president. This, however, this did not have any impact on recruitment.
