Around 300 students of SCMS, Kochi were involved in arranging various aspects of Emerging Kerala summit

The three-day summit, Emerging Kerala, was a huge event for the government and the management students of SCMS, Kochi, had the rare opportunity to be associated with its organising.

Vicky Paul, a student says, “It was a wonderful experience to meet delegates and escort them to the venues and watch them take part in the discussions. Emerging Kerala has given a boost to my confidence.”

Around 300 students of this B-school were involved in arranging various aspects of Emerging Kerala. Leya Elizabeth Mohan, another student, says: “I am very proud to be a part of Emerging Kerala, which is one the biggest events in Kerala this year.”

A member of the organising committee, Leya looked after the food and agro processing unit. “I mastered leadership skills and learnt to organise an event in a systematic manner.”

The three-day conference saw State and Union ministers, industrialists, economists and other bigwigs taking part. Delhi resident Gayatri Nair, a student from SCMS, says, “The event was very well organised and we could see each one pouring their hearts out to make it a big success.”

The students could see how big a challenge managing an event was. Adds Gayatri, “Escorting the delegates was not at all an easy task. There are certain etiquettes we had to follow from providing what they needed to conversing with them. We had training sessions and rehearsals.”

Students had to undergo a week-long training, which helped them coordinate and interact with the delegates efficiently. Another student Sarath comments, “Leadership skills, team work, communication skills were all equally important here. This was the best practical exposure our college could give us.”
