Madras High Court directed the state government to include all candidates to appear for the Teachers Eligibility Test to be conducted by the Teachers Recruitment Board and also to postpone the test from October 3 to October 14.

Justice S Nagamuthu in his order said Secretary to School Education Department shall postpone the proposed Teachers Eligibility Test on October 3 and conduct it on October 14.

He also said all candidates who have not earlier applied for the Test held on July 12 this year, shall be permitted to submit their applications on or before September 28 or any further date to be fixed by the Board.

On July 12, 2012, over 6.73 lakh teachers in the state appeared in the Test conducted by the Teachers Recruitment Board, in which only 2,448 candidates emerged successful.

The state government had on August 26 announced a re-exam for those who failed to clear the test and scheduled it for October 3.

Petitioner A Yamini approached the High Court seeking a direction to permit fresh graduates, including herself, to write the Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test.
