Observing that Leadership was the essence of good governance, former President, A P J Abdul Kalam said a creative leader must be able to handle success and failure, be transparent and travel through 'unexplored' paths.

"Leadership is the essence of good governance. A creative leader must have a vision and a passion to realise the mission. He should know how to manage success and failures. He should have the courage to take decisions and a need to be transparent and ready to travel through the unexplored paths," he said.

He was inaugurating the 31st Annual National conference 'Aligning HR for the triple bottom line-People, Planet and Profit' here recently.

"Leaders should work with integrity and succeed with integrity. The unique quality of creative leader is that they are not afraid of a problem," he said adding they will try to defeat the problem and be the captain of the problem.

The conference will discuss the role of HR professionals in integrating the three key elements in their profession and the organisation that they represent.
