Ordinance passed giving autonomy to 16 RKM run school in West Bengal

Updated on: Monday, September 10, 2012

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that 16 Ramakrishna Mission (RKM)-run schools in the state would from now get autonomy in recruitment of teachers.

"An ordinance to this effect was issued today", the Chief Minister told reporters at the state secretariat.

She said Ramkrishna Mission had been demanding for such an autonomy in recruitment of teachers for long.

Earlier some weeks ago, speaking at a convocation at Belur in Howrah district, Banerjee had announced her government's decision to exempt Ramakrishna Mission (RKM)-run schools from recruiting teachers through the School Service Commission examinations.

She had said for granting this autonomy to RKM, the state government would bring in an ordinance as the assembly was not in session.
