ITI students to be introduced to product designing

Updated on: Wednesday, August 19, 2009

Mumbai: As part of its corporate social responsibility programme, PTC, the Product Development Company® in association with Directorate of Vocational Education & Training (DVET), Govt of Maharashtra, announced the introduction of their Pro/ENGINEER® software as part of the curriculum in ITI schools across Maharashtra to make students aware of product design and development. Pro/ENGINEER® is an industry-leading software used by some of the big corporate names in the country.

Speaking on the occasion, John Stuart, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Education Program & Eastern Europe, PTC, said, “We want to introduce students to the software used for industrial purpose. Exposure to technology should not be limited to students in cities. Students in rural areas also have the necessary potential. However, due to lack of basic facilities, it is often wasted. Exposing students from all parts of life to engineering principles in a fun and creative way will inspire these students to pursue engineering-related careers and eventually become the engineers of the future

“This is the first time ever in India that such an initiative is being started at the school level, and we are glad to have the support of the DVET in this initiative. Together we look forward to igniting the young minds in our country and preparing them for challenging careers ahead” said Rafiq Somani, Country Manager, PTC India,

Although PTC already has an active education programme in various institutes and polytechnic colleges across Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, this is PTC’s first foray into empowering the students at the school level in India.

The software is being introduced from grade 5, and helps students understand the concept of drawing and designing a product. The course will be offered totally free of cost. “PTC has trained seven to eight DVET personnel on the use of the software, who have in turn trained almost 500 ITI instructors,” said Prakash Jaiswal, Deputy Apprenticeship Advisor, DVET, Govt of Maharashtra.
