Computer Science students of the Osmania University College of Engineering (OUCE) students secured record placements this year with 95 per cent of them being placed. The ‘lowest’ placement, relatively speaking, was in Bio Medical Engineering stream with 65 per cent.

OUCE placement officer V. Uma Maheshwar Rao said the highest individual pay package was of Rs. 9.5 lakh offered to a computer science student Mudassar by Google and the lowest compensation offered was Rs. 3.2 lakh. Average salaries offered were about Rs. 4.8 lakh.

Most of these students, however, had either rejected placement offers in other States or were headed for higher education, he said during the ‘Campus to Corporate’ programme held for the 2012 batch students on Sunday.

Students who got placed got appreciation letters from OU Vice-chancellor S. Satyanarayana and also advice from the industry representatives on making their careers more appealing and dealing with the pressures.

“Find inspiration, network with seniors, appreciate others and celebrate success,” were the mantras given by industry representatives like Sriram Biradavolu, Director, Oracle; Tarun Kishore, HR Manager, Deloitte; Nikhil, HR Manager, Wipro; Manohar Reddy, CEO, Gallop Technologies and Shivaji Biswas.

Taking risk was a way to success, they said. Mr. Sriram said India will be the major supplier of manpower to the world, particularly the European countries, where the population was aging at a rapid pace, in the near future.

Young Indians will rule the world, he felt but wanted the youngsters to be ready equipped with the necessary skills. Students shared their experiences of selection process and the role played by the Placement Office.
