HP University teachers not to participate in politics

Vice Chancellor A D N Vajpayee said, Himachal Pradesh University teachers have been asked to give an undertaking that they would not participate in politics in compliance with a High Court order.

He told reporters that the university was already in the process of amending the ordinance to ban participation of teachers in politics but after the High Court ruling it was not required.
  
When pointed out that there were teachers cells of different political parties and identities of teachers involving in politics were well known, he said, "We will seek legal opinion in this regard."
  
He, however, said that under the rules, teachers can contest elections and go on leave, and if any teacher seeks permission to contest the upcoming assembly polls, permission would have to be granted.
