Increasing aerospace Industry boosts demand for aerospace students

With several aerospace industries coming up, there is an increasing demand for students with conceptual knowledge of various systems, design philosophy manufacturing technology and appropriate skills.

Ms R Anusha, CEO of Park Group of Institutions, which offers a course on aeronautics, said, “Aeronautical or aerospace engineering is one of the most challenging fields of engineering with wide scope for growth. It deals with development of new technology in the field of aviation space exploration and defence system.”

The field demands high degree of knowledge, experience and commitment of faculty and all-round infrastructure for hands-on training.

The course specialises in design, construction, development, testing, operation, reliability, and maintenance of commercial and military aircraft, space craft and their components as well as satellites and missiles.

She said that other than defence and public sector industries like HAL, there were many aerospace industries in the country like InfoTech, Mahindra Satyam, Quest Global, Goodrich etc.

“The skill sets of students are not on par with the expectation of the industry; but at premier institutions, students stand a bright chance of getting a good job in the field,” she said and indicated that over 50 institutions had come up that were offering courses on aeronautical engineering.

Placements had been good — between 80-90 per cent — in the last 11 years at premier institutions like IITs, MIT and others like Park College of Engineering and Technology and Punjab Engineering College, added Ms Anusha..
