Kalam asks medical community to collaborate with biosmart material scientists

Former president Dr A P J Abdul Kalam said, research should be taken up by the medical community in collaboration with biosmart material scientists to develop a device which can replace balloon and stent in angioplasty.
 
Doctors might have witnessed and experienced balloon blast during angioplasty procedure, which could be dangerous to the life of the patient. "I was thinking of smart bio material with which balloon or stent can be replaced, without using air," he said.
 
He was inauguraitng "Preventive cardiology: Heart screening for two lakh school children" programme by private K G Hospital.
 
Hospital Chairman Dr G Bhakthavathsalam said it was estimated that India will have seven crore heart patients in the next decade. In view of this, the hospital has decided to screen two lakh children in the next five years, particularly in government run schools, and equal number of adults in the years to come.
