Kochi: Kerala High court today held that 42 Self financing Engineering college Managements, who had entered into an agreement with the state government on Feb 3 this year, cannot fill their vacant merit quota seats for the B.Tech course as management quota.

This order would be applicable to the seats remaining unfilled on Aug 14 this year, Justice V Giri said in an interim order on a petition by Shantini S Lal of Kollam and another student seeking a direction to extend the date from Aug 14 fixed for second allotment of seats for engineering courses.

As per clause 3 of the agreement, managements were entitled to fill those seats still remaining unfilled after Aug 14, 5 pm.  The petitioners stated that they could not exercise their higher options due to this clause. The case has been posted to Aug 18.
