Govt. constitutes Standing Committee to monitor implementation of central schemes

The government announced a series of measures that includes constituting a Standing Committee to monitor the implementation of central schemes aimed at providing education to children belonging to SCs, STs and people with disabilities.

The Standing Committee headed by Minister of State for HRD D Purandeswari will monitor implementation of central schemes aimed at providing educational opportunities to SCs, STs and people with disabilities.
 
The Committee will also suggest measures for enhancing their access to quality inclusive education, a government release said after the first meeting of the National Monitoring Committee for Education of SCs, STs and people with disabilities.
 
HRD Minister Kapil Sibal chaired the meeting.
 
Announcing the decision to constitute the task forces, the Government said such committees will specially focus on review of the implementation of schemes of HRD Ministry aimed at education of children belonging to these categories.
 
The task forces will identify factors for "dropout" of the children belonging to these categories at different levels primary, secondary and higher education level, and suggest monitoring mechanism for physical and financial progress of schemes of HRD focused at SC/ST and the physically challenged.
 
The task forces are also empowered to suggest ways to enhance the educational attainment of the children of these categories, including modification of existing schemes and proposals for new schemes.
 
It is also tasked with empowerment of girl child at all levels. The task forces would submit their reports to the Standing Committee within a period six months. The Standing Committee will guide and advise the task forces from time to time.
