Puducherry: Pondicherry Varsity plans to hold community outreach extension programmes to promote education and self employment in rural areas

The projects would include popularising pre-primary education in rural areas by training educated unemployed women from villages and backward areas and also to support them to start kindergarten schools at their own initiative, Vice Chancellor Professor J A K Tareen said today.

He was speaking at a meeting convened to greet 84 new faculty, who had joined the university in various departments.

There is a plan to raise the students strength from the present 2,742 to 5,000 by the end of the current five year plan. The faculty strength had also been proposed to be raised to 460 from the present 261, a university release said.
