37 poor children denied admission under RTE Act.

Madras High Court Bench here has directed the Government Pleader to ascertain facts about an allegation in a petition that 37 poor children from Karumbalai locality here had been denied admission in four private schools under the right to education act.
 
A division bench comprising Justice R.Banumathi and Justice B.Rajendran directed the Government Pleader to find out from the District Collector and Inspector of Matriculation schools if the allegation made by Petitioner C.Perarivalan, Joint Secretary of Tamil Puligal (a Dalit outfit), was true and get instructions.
 
The Petitioner said that he took steps to enrol the 37 children in the neighbourhood schools as per the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act.
 
Under the act, 25 per cent of the seats in the entry level should be allocated for poor children. The act also stated that every child between the age of six and 14 should have right to free and compulsory education in the local school.
 
He gave a representation to the District Collector for getting the 37 children admitted in the four schools,and sent a copy of the representation to the Inspector of Matriculation Schools.
  
However, the response of the Inspector was evasive and arbitrary, he claimed adding hence he had filed the petition seeking a direction to admit the children.
