Hyderabad: With an aim to ease the financial burden from student's pocket, the State Government of Andhra Pradesh is mulling to conduct region wise common entrance examination for admission into post-graduate courses from the next academic year.

During the last four decades, the number of state universities has risen to 31, besides deemed and central universities.

"Region-wise tests will cut down the costs for everyone," informed an official from the Government.

A similar exercise is already being practiced by the Osmania University (OU), as the varsity is planning to conduct a combined entrance test for Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda; Telangana University, Nizamabad and Palamoor University, Mahabubnagar which were carved out of OU recently.

Notification for the same will come out in the first week of April.

"We don't see any problems with students as they have to take one test for admission into four universities," said an official from the University.
