Science Academy to be set in Nagpur

An Academy of Science and Innovative Research of international repute will be set up in the city which will provide ample scope to the academicians all over the country intending to carry out research in the field of science and technology.
  
Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh the Union Cabinet which met on Thursday cleared the proposal and the same was conveyed by Union Minister for Science and Technology, Vilasrao Deshmukh to city Congress MP Vilas Muttemwar who had taken up the issue with Centre.
   
Nagpur is already having many top level educational institutions and was emerging as the educational hub, Muttemwar who had earlier written to Prime Minister on March 29 to set up such an institute here, told reporters.
   
He said premier organisation, National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) was already functioning here and with the setting up of Science Academy, Nagpur will open new vistas for development in the field.
  
The Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research Bill 2011 was adopted by Parliament in February this year. It will primarily focus on research and imparting training, inter-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary areas not covered by Indian Universities.
   
The Academy will cover proposed courses on Avionics, System Biology, Ocean Engineering, Ergonomics, flight vehicle engineering, Mechatronics, Advanced Petroleum Science and Technology and Green Chemistry, Muttemwar said.
  
It will supplement and compliment efforts of the Ministry of Human Resources Development in strengthening the  higher education in sciences and technology besides it will be an international institute to carry out inter-disciplinary teaching and research in post graduate and doctoral research programmes in collaboration with central agencies, Muttemwar added.
