Maharashtra to implement RTE this academic year

The Chief Minister of Maharashtra Prithviraj Chavan has decided to implement RTE from this academic year. He said that the process of formulating the rules for adoption of the law by the state is already on and discussions were in progress to finalise the income cap for weaker section. The state plans to implement the act for class I in the first year.

The Act will be implemented in all schools, excluding the unaided institutions for minorities. A proposal is also on to set up a tribunal for monitoring the implementation of the Act.
