UNICEF provides Solar lamps to students

UNICEF would provide over 25,000 portable solar lamps for children reading in 203 Kasrturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas, 132 Tribal Welfare Schools and children at Observations Homes in Jharkhand.
 
"The portable solar lamps will ensure uninterrupted study of children in the centre in the night where there is no supply of power or it is irregular," Job Zachariah, chief of UNICEF Jharkhand, said.
 
Around 75,000 children in the state are expected to benefit from the solar lamps.
 
Jharkhand HRD Minister Baidyanath Ram will distribute these solar lamps at a special function on April 30, a release said.
 
These solar lamps are easy to carry and solar battery could be easily charged by putting it under the sunlight for 9-12 hours, it said adding the battery could function for 3-4 hours at a stretch.
 
A group of 2-3 children could use one lamp for studies or other activities.
