Vigilance inquiry sought against varsity's land transfer

A Special court today directed the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau to probe the alleged grant of about 50 acres of land by the Calicut University to the trusts and associations headed by the top brass of IUML, a major partner in the ruling United Democratic Front in Kerala.
 
The Inquiry Commissioner and Special Judge (Vigilance)here, V Bhaskaran gave the direction while considering a petition filed by P D Joseph, a human rights activist, pleading that a probe be ordered into the alleged land transfer.
   
The case has been posted for May 5.
