Thiruvalluvar varsity without a Vice-Chancellor

Cuddalore: The Thiruvalluvar University at Vellore has been without a head for nearly a year, affecting future career prospects of several students in numerous ways.
Vital posts like Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and Controller of Examinations were lying vacant, and therefore several irregularities have crept inside university.

In the case of candidates who have completed undergraduate courses, even after several months the mark sheets have not reached the candidates. Some students mark sheets did not carry internal assessment marks.

The worst affected were the students of C. Kandasamy Naidu College for Women, an affiliated college. Protesting irregularity in the mark sheets and 'indifferent attitude' of the university to their plight, they boycotted classes on Wednesday.
The Vice-principal M. Mangaiyarkkarasi told that the first semester mark sheets were issued in the third semester, without the internal assessment marks.

As a result, the students of zoology and botany streams and some students of other departments such as Tamil, English and mathematics, were declared failed, although they had done well.

Our college had made several representations to University, still we have not received any response from the university, Ms. Mangaiyarkkarasi said.

If this state of affairs were to continue, it would positively affect the academic career and have a long-term impact on the performance of many students. Some were waiting endlessly for their mark sheets to join B.Ed or postgraduate courses after completing under graduation.

One college staff said that, a head of the Physical Education Department was now running the affairs of the university and he did nothing to correct mistakes that had crept into the mark sheets.
