Top IT companies have picked up many students from top private engineering colleges and deemed universities in the state.

Mr B. Babu Manoharan, director, St. Joseph’s College of Engineering, Sholinganallur said that top IT and core companies like

Cognizant, Wipro, Mind Tree, SL Lumax, Enzen, Hewitt, Sasken and HDFC Bank recruited 866 students with an average pay package

of Rs 3.8 lakh per year. “We have seen a constant and steady rise in the number of students getting placed in the past three

years,” he said.

Prof S. Ganapathy, dean (placement), SRM University said, “Thanks to our recruiters, we had a good year of placements with

top IT and core companies placing more than 3,000 students.

“This year IT companies who recruited students from biotechnology and mechanical branches deployed them in their own areas of

domain. In the past, Mechanical Engineering students worked in some irrelevant projects but now they are given work in

projects that require mechanical engineers.”

However a head hunter of a top IT company said, “With countries like Greece, France, Italy and Portugal struggling to survive

in the European Union, we faced a lot of difficulties in getting projects from these countries. We need to see what will

happen this year as the situation seems to be bleak. Anyway we have recruited lots of students in anticipation of projects

from the US.”
