A municipal school at Kottaiyur, a small village near Kumbakonam where Prof R. Sethuraman, the present VC of the Sastra University studied up to Class 3 is getting ready for a facelift through a generous grant from him. Sastra University is constructing a new building and compound wall at a cost of Rs90 lakh for the benefit of students studying in this village school. This new building measuring about 6,000 sq.ft. will house nine class rooms, staff room, common room, etc.

Prof. R. Sethuraman said “the success of India lies in its villages and the success of school education lies in the village schools.” He wanted this school to provide the possible best to its students and remove the stigma that only private schools are capable of creating good infrastructure. The Varsity conducted ground breaking ceremony for new construction on Monday to mark the beginning of the construction activities.
